ANALYSING PHOTOGRAPHS
WE CAN END POLICE VIOLENCE IN AMERICA
More than one thousand people are killed by police in America. This photograph shows many citizens of America taking action and protesting against police gun violence. The photographer has used black people as the main view point of the photo, this is because police are using guns as a force against black people.
There are a lot of visual elements combined into this one photograph .The photograph is overexposed as it sets a bright concept. The photo is effective because it is focused on the main man in front and a few people behind him , however the people at the far end of the photo are slightly blurred and not visible to the viewers of the photo. The blur effect shows the many hands that are held up protesting against this matter. The depth of field is shallow because it enables the photographer to blur the background and some foreground details, causing a distraction to melt away and allowing the viewers to direct to the focal point of the picture ,(which is the man raising his hands at the front of the image).
While analysing the image, there are many shapes to come across. Such as of the main man who has his hands raised up, the photographer has created a triangle shape of the man which draws the viewers eyes. This is effective because the composition of the photograph is getting more attention. Even in the background there are many shapes that may catch some viewers eyes. However in this photograph the photographer didn't use the rule of thirds because the main man is in the middle.
The colours of this photograph have a light blue, grey and black tone to set the atmosphere of the image, almost making the photo sombre , serious and toned down.
In my opinion, I think this photograph is successful because it sets a deeper and dark meaning to it. The basic visual elements of this photo that I have suggested makes this photo powerful to many viewers, as well as this when looking straight at the photo it is almost as if you are looking down on the man to create a tense atmosphere for the viewer.

Mental Abuse
Mental Abuse is just one form of abuse that people can experience in a relationship. Though Mental Abuse doesn’t leave physical scars, it can have huge impact on your confidence and self esteem.
The fact that I chose Mental Abuse is because it is not spoken about a lot and could make a good campaign photography idea, which can impact a lot on many people and bring awareness about this issue.
This photograph shows mental abuse on a child. The big shadow shows fear and represents darkness , it also shows what happens in the shadows and how it mentally affects you. The photographer has taken this in a dark room with a bright light so the shadow can be made, the lighting gives this a dramatic affect to represent the shadow and the person behind it. The depth of field is slightly over exposed and the focus point is on the foreground. The exposure is also dark. The photograph has a rough texture which will make the audience feel sympathetic. I like this photograph because it shows a clear image of mental abuse and what a person goes through while experiencing this. I would like to use something like this in my photo shoot by creating shadows and giving my photos a darkness to them and using something simple which is easy to get across to people.
This photograph shows mental abuse on a teenager. The arms that have messy writing on them shows the pain and terrifying message the photographer is trying to put across to the audience. The photographer has taken this outside because you can pass by people by not really seeing what is going on with them. The grey darkness gives this a sense of fear and pain , the lighting shines on the arms to create mystery and what is happening with this person. The focus point is on the foreground, there is a middle depth of field. The photo is slightly underexposed. The exposure is also light. I like this photograph because the photographer is putting a clear message across about mental abuse and how this affects a person. I could use something like this in my photo shoot because I want to show this kind representation of mental abuse.
MY TURN.....
"The scars you can't see are the hardest to heal"
Shoot 1- KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!
Worst!!
This is my worst photo because it is not in focus and there is a blur affect and also the model I have used is smiling which does not complete the photo at all. As well as the image being the worst the photo is overexposed. The texture of the image doesn't give any sense of emotion or creativeness. Also the lighting makes it look like a happy environment however I don't want to link this to happiness.
BEST....
I couldn't pick between these two photos so I decided to choose both and link them to each other. The reason I did this is because it shows a clear picture of mental abuse. The emotion and coming from this photo builds darkness and loneliness. However I would like to change the lighting in this image because it is overexposed as I want to give this image a sense of darkness and a gloomy atmosphere. I want to make the audience feel sympathetic and show awareness of mental abuse.

To make these pictures EVEN better I will use Photoshop to change the photo filter and add some text to show the words of mental abuse. The kind of filter I want to use is to show darkness and the secrets and pain of mental abuse.

SHOOT 2
This shoot was not showing any improvement in my work, also the idea that I produced wasn't working out. Th is because the words "unseen scars" were not showing up so it showed no significance to my photo shoot.
SHOOT 2 (Improvement)
My next shoot is about.....
My next shoot shows the physical significance of mental abuse.
HOW?- The white grills are effective because they show a sense of entrapment.
This makes people acknowledge how serious mental abuse can be, it also shows that mental abuse is not spoken about a lot and people hide this which can lead to people feeling controlled, manipulated helpless and even feeling shameful and guilty.

WORST!!
This is my worst picture because it doesn't show any meaning and doesn't describe/show what point I am trying to put across to my viewers. There are not many visual elements combined into this photograph, which makes this photo pointless. The picture is underexposed and you can not really tell what is happening.
BEST!!
This is my best because it shows the clear image of entrapment. There are a lot of visual elements combined into this one photo such as the depth of field is shallow making the viewers attention slide to the focal point (which is the reflection of the girl in the window).
USING PHOTOSHOP (TO MAKE MY PHOTOS MORE EFFECTIVE)
FINAL PHOTO
EVALUATION
The theme for this project was "campaign photography". I have interpreted the theme of mental abuse. While doing this project, I have come across many skills like, learning the right composition of a photo, the right texture and the correct atmosphere; time and day for a photo. Even more I have explored visual elements of a photography, by visual elements I mean , the exposure ,and the depth of field. I have also learnt about the different shapes and the colour tones of a photo. I even put my opinion across about many photos , either liking it or criticizing it.
Throughout the task I have explored techniques such as Photoshop and tried using a variety of filters such as a cool tone ore even black and white filters. I even rendered an photo and gave it a comical edgy look to make the photo stand out more , and to catch the viewers attention. Even more I used text to involve the viewers more as well!
Mainly,I have researched the different forms of mental abuse , which helped create an idea for my photo shoots and made me understand the definition and the meaning behind this project.
Personally, my favorite shoot is my first shoot because I have spent a lot of time correcting it and making it perfect to my standards.I have included the process of that shoot on my website and experienced my best and worst image carefully using many photography key words. Due to the fact I created a lot of images for my first shoot, I couldn't choose between two photos for my final photo , so I used both and successfully explained why I chose the two photos as my final photos for that shoot.
From my point of view , I think I have successfully included all the points and completed my work. However for my EBI , I would love to do a third shoot to explore more of my ideas and connect them to the two shoots I have already done. To achieve the next grade, I think I would need to include more depth to my explaining of my photos. In my opinion , I am happy with my work and extremely overjoyed by the content I have produced.
